James Brohan studied painting with Yann Goulet, Liam Treacy and Desmond Carrick; initially taking private lessons, before enrolling at the Dún Laoghaire College of Art and Design and later at NCAD. This same view, albeit populated by villagers and horses, was the subject of many works by Maguire in the early 1970s and later exhibited at Kennys Gallery, Galway in 1972. A similar work, pertaining to this 1972 exhibition, sold in Whyte's 30 November 2009 Important Irish Art sale for €14,000.
