  • The design for this wine label was taken from an original watercolour and gouache (35 by 55cm) painted in 1959. In commemoration of the artist’s death in 1973, Baron Philippe de Rothschild invited Picasso’s wife to select a fitting work by the artist to adorn their wine bottle that year. 1973 was also significant for the wine as it saw Mouton Rothschild finally achieve the status 'Premier Cru.' This is believed to be a proof in a larger format than the issued labels.

    Celebration was originally conceived for an ILPH Ball Fundraiser for the World Horse Welfare. Another example of Celebration was purchased by the late Duke of Devonshire. Angela Conner has created sculptures in a range of diverse materials, including stainless steel, marble dust, carbon fibre, resin, gold, silver, slate and glass. She has substantial international experience and is particularly known for her kinetic sculpture. Conner's sculptural works in Ireland include several large scale works such as Wave located in Parkwest, Dublin; the tallest water and wind sculpture in Europe. In April 2009 a major large-scale sculpture by the artist, entitled Patefaction, was installed on Grafton Street, Dublin as part of a temporary Public Art Space Programme, organised in conjunction with Dublin City Council. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections internationally, including Lucien Freud and several members of the Royal Family, the Arts Council England, the National Portrait Gallery, the Sculpture Gallery at Chatsworth, 10 Downing Street and the Carnegie Museum of Modern Art in Pittsburgh, among others.

  • E.M. Fearnside is listed in the RHA Index of Exhibitors (p. 258) as a painter exhibiting one work entitled, Roses from Nature, (£5-0-0), catalogue no. 478 in 1884. The artist's address at this time is recorded as Swift's Hospital.

    In 1745 Jonathan Swift bequeathed £12,000 to build the first asylum for the psychiatrically ill, St. Patrick's Hospital, Dublin. Swifts Hospital: A History of St. Patrick's Hospital, Dublin 1749-1989 by E. Malcolm records how the first half of the 19th century saw considerable improvement in patient's physical environment with day rooms, "moral management" and games being provided. However, despite all these remedies the percentage of sufferers in the hospital deemed “incurable” had reached 92% by 1845 with a death rate of 10 %.

    The 1901 census records an Eliza Mary Fearnside, Castle-ellis, Bolaboy, Wexford aged seventy-seven. Birth place is given, Dublin city with religion noted as “separatist”. Her literacy is recorded as “read and write”, marital status; “widow” with her relation to the head of the household as “Mother in Law.”
