  • Labelled The Tansey, Howth", the album includes a postcard of "Private Morgan R.I.P.1918". Many of the photographs are of family members and friends, some in military uniforms in Africa, including Egypt & the Middle East Suez) circa 1914-21. A valuable record of original images relating to an Anglo-Irish family with Carlow and Howth connections as well active involvement in British Regiments during the Boer War, and World War 1 including the South Irish Horse Regiment. In more recent times "The Tansey" was the home of John McColgan and Moya Doherty of Riverdance fame. Around the time this album was compiled "The Tansey" was owned by Denis Robert Pack-Beresford (1864-1942 ) an Irish entomologist who specialised in Araneae. Denis Robert Pack-Beresford was High Sherriff of Carlow, a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and the Royal Dublin Society, and took part in its surveys of Lambay and Clare Island . He wrote Contributions to a Natural History of Lambay Island (1907) & other studies on Irish Natural History. He also resided at Feenagh, Carlow. (96 photographs)."

  • Containing images of tour from Germany to South America aboard the ill fated German luxury liner Cap Arcona in 1938. Among the images are photos of the ship itself, on board activities, views from the ship and on land in Brazil, Uruguay, Cape Verde, also a large portrait of a German soldier & a press clipping relating to the sinking of the Cap Arcona and other ships. The photographs range in size from about 25 x 19 cms (approx.10 x 8.25 inches) to 6 x 6cms (approx.2.25 square inches). Pasted to the front & rear pastedowns are two fabric strips with the name of the ship Cap Arcona" in gold lettering and with the logo of the company HSDG (Hamburg-Südamerikanische Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft) . A unique & important visual record of the travels of this luxury liner just 7 years before it was sunk by the Royal Navy in 1945 with the loss of 5,000 lives, mostly prisoners from concentration camps who were being moved from eastern Germany.
