  • Silver presentation goblet hallmarked London 1905. Inscribed "Militia Rifle Association Revolver Cup 1905, won by Col. Sir W. H. Mahon, Bart D.S.O., 4th Bn. West Yorkshire Regiment". Colonel Sir William Henry Mahon of Castlegar Co. Galway, was born in 1856 and served during the Boer War where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order while commanding the 4th West Yorkshire Regiment. He was also Deputy Lieutenant for County Galway and died in 1926. The diaries and papers of W. H. Mahon are held by the National Library of Ireland (9oz)

1908: Royal Artillery horse racing Aldershot Cup

  • Large silver two handled cup on a circular wooden plinth. Made by Mappin and Webb, cup and lid both hallmarked London 1904. Inscribed "The Aldershot Cup, won by Mr. R. K. McGillycuddy's Foolhardy, by Sainfoin-Retire. Ridden by Mr. C. T. Walwyn 1908". (50 oz). Foolhardy winner of the 1908 Royal Artillery Gold Cup held at Aldershot was owned by Ross Kinloch McGillycuddy, (The McGillycuddy of the Reeks) who was born in 1882. After being educated at the Woolwich Royal Military Academy he served with the 5th Lancers and 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards being awarded a Distinguished Service Order during the First World War. After retiring from the army he became a member of Seanad Éireann. He died in 1950 and is buried in the family vault at Churchtown Cemetery, Beaufort, Co. Kerry.

The South of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry was a cavalry unit of the British Army existing between 1902 and 1908 when it was renamed the South Irish Horse.

1914: Larne Gun Running Italian Vetterli-Vitali infantry rifle 1870/87 model

  • Medium: walnut stock, metal receiver and barrel
  • A Vetterli rifle serial number "UZ 5721" Manufactured at the Torre Annunziata arsenal in 1881, converted to a four shot repeating rifle in 1887 at the Terni arsenal as indicated by a cartouche on the right side of the butt stock. The Vetterli rifle, named after its Swiss designer, Friedrich Vetterli, was adopted by the Swiss army in 1868 and later by the Italian military. Large numbers of these weapons made their way into Ireland in 1914, including 4,600 which were imported during the Larne gun-running by the Ulster Volunteer Force. Some were also used by the Irish Volunteers during the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence but few have survived today. A rare and interesting piece in excellent condition.

  • A pair of private purchase 8x binoculars by T. Mason optician, Dublin. In leather fitted case missing lid and engraved "N. G. Ball R.D.F." beside the lens. Nigel Gresley Ball was born in Dublin in 1893 the son of Charles Bent and Annie Julia Ball. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers during the First World War and served on the Western Front from December 1915 reaching the rank of Captain.

The first dated the 20 May 1915 and stating that O'Connor will send Burgess' account for the cargo of rifles to Mr. Redmond and urge him to pay at once. The second dated the 26 May 1915 stating that O'Connor had been unable to get payment from the treasury after being "laughed out of court".

The I.N.G. later merged with the Irish Citizen Army and a number of its members fought with the latter group during the 1916 Rising.

Including a note in Irish and signature by Michael Collins, signature of Eamon de Valera, an almost complete set of Anglo Irish Treaty plenipotentiary signatures signed at the time of the Treaty negotiations, including Arthur Griffth, Eamon Duggan, Robert Barton, Erskine Childers.   • Also with original box of issue addressed to "Mr. Seán Moore, Granard P.O., Co. Longford", large Free State Army commissioning certificate and letter issued to Seán Moore, on his promotion to Captain on 1 October 1924, signed by W. T. Cosgrave and Dublin Brigade FF cap badge. The North Longford Flying Column was led by Seán MacEoin. Amongst its famous actions during the War of Independence was the Battle of Ballinalee in which the column fought members of the British Army and Royal Irish Constabulary away from the village of Ballinalee in County Longford and the Clonfin Ambush in which a number of Royal Irish Constabulary Auxiliary Division were killed.
