  • The McKelveys were frequent guests of a Northern Ireland hotel, run by the present owner's family who were admirers of the artist's work. As a result, a friendship grew and several family portraits were commissioned during the 1960s and the present commission. The portrait of President Kennedy was based on a series of photographs supplied by the patron to McKelvey. The portrait was commissioned after Kennedy's assassination in 1963.

  • A collection of portraits, still lifes, landscapes, abstract and other subjects in watercolour, crayon, charcoal, pen, pencil, mixed media and oil. Other items include two letters in the hand of and signed by William Conor addressed to Vera Mooney and her husband written in 1927 and 1955. A scrap album contains numerous press clippings with press comment and images of art events in Ulster 1954-69. Exhibition catalogues include: Bangor Art Club, The Ulster Society of Women Artists and Exhibition of Works by Provincial Art Societies in Ulster. Also present is a press photo of Gladys Maccabe at an exhibition in her capacity as President of the Ulster Society of Women Artists and a postcard in Maccabe's hand dated 1957. An interesting archival collection.

  • Both unframed. Dimensions of Nativity, 6.5 by 4in, sheet size, 8 by 5in. Chariot of Fire pre-dates the artist's iconic copper-bronze, Chariot of Life, which was unveiled on the Irish Life Centre plaza, on Dublin's Lower Abbey Street the year after the artist's death in 1982. The work was a private commission by financier Michael Lucey, responsible for the development of Irish Life Centre.The sizeable work shows the figure of a charioteer said to represents reason controlling the emotions. Kelly's other well-known public sculptures in Dublin include The Children of Lir (1964), in the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square and James Larkin on O'Connell Street.

  • Commissioned by Marie Donnelly on behalf of the Irish Hospice Foundation. Each print is loosely inserted in a glassine sleeve on which is printed a written profile of the sitter. The 8 Irish art collectors featured in the set include; Dermot Desmond, Vincent Ferguson, Charles The proceeds of this sale is be donated to the Irish Hospice Foundation. Haughey, Paul McGuinness, Martin Naughton, Vincent O'Brien, Tony O’Reilly and Michael Smurfit. The entire set is presented in a folding case of black linen and papered boards with a matching slipcase. A very fine production.

  • Ireland's Wild Orchids began as a set of thirty-five watercolour paintings recording Ireland's orchid flora at the close of the 20th century. During the six years it took to complete, the project developed in scope to encompass both the gifting of the original paintings to the archives at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin and the publication of the book within this lot. Orchid portraits by Susan Sex, accompanying text by Brendan Sayers, first hardback signed by artist and author from a limited edition of 700 of which this is number 556. Nicholson & Bass, Dublin, 2004. A copy of the exhibition catalogue, invitation and postcards accompany this lot.
