  • Born in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, Violet McAdoo studied at the Belfast College of Art and the RCA, London, whence she graduated in 1927. She returned to Northern Ireland and supported herself through teaching as well as exhibiting with the RHA, WCSI, the Living Artists exhibitions, and the Ulster Academy of which she was at one time vice-president. Examples of her work hang in the Royal Ulster Academy and the Ulster Museum, Belfast.

  • Park moved to St. Ives at the age of 18 and became one of the best known of the early St Ives painters. He studied under Julian Olsson who encouraged him to go to Paris. From 1905 he attended the Atelier Colarossi where he was a contemporary of Modigliani. Strongly influenced by the French Impressionists, Park's work is always brightly coloured and spontaneous. He exhibited coastal and fishing scenes at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon and St. Ives' Society of Artists. His work is held in the public collections of the Manchester City Art Gallery, Salford Art Gallery and the Tate.

  • Born at Craigavad, Co. Down, Georgina Moutray Kyle studied at Colarossi’s in Paris during the 1880s, returning afterwards to Ireland with a distinctly modern palette and Post-Impressionist style. She became an active committee member of the Belfast Art Society (later called the Ulster Academy of Arts) and was a dominant persona in Belfast exhibitions in the 1920s and ‘30s (see Snoddy, page 328). A retrospective was held in 2004 at The Naughton Gallery, Queen’s University, Belfast.
