Charles Grey

Born in Greenock, Scotland, Charles Grey came to Dublin as a young man and found employment painting portraits particularly of his fellow Scotsmen. He was elected an Associate of the RHA in 1837 and a full member in 1845. He died in Dublin in 1892 leaving five sons who also became artists: Alfred, Charles, Malcolm, Edwin Landseer, Gregor AND James (see Strickland, Vol. I, pp. 411-2). A number of his drawings are in the National Gallery of Ireland. www.whytes.ie
