Heywood Hardy
Heywood Hardy was and is today a popular painter and watercolourist. He studied in Bristol and later settled in London. Paintings by him are mainly of animals, sporting subjects and genre scenes. His most important and popular works are his genre paintings set in the 18th century with their splendid costumes; they are mainly of people riding. Among his patrons were the Sitwells of Renishaw. He exhibited at the RA from about 1870. He also exhibited at the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street, the Old Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery. www.whytes.ie
