Richard Kingston
Born and raised on a farm in Co. Wicklow, Kingston studied arts and engineering at TCD, before moving to London where he worked as a teacher and designer. Upon returning to Ireland in the 1950s he concentrated on painting, participating in the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and holding his first solo exhibition at the Ritchie Hendiks Gallery in 1958. He continued showing with Hendriks until the 1970s, when he founded his own gallery, The Wellington Gallery. From 1980 until his death he sat on the board of the RHA; he also served on the NGIs Board of Governors from 1982 to 1989. A Kingston survey show, including works from a span of fifty years, was held at the RHA in March 2001.
