Sir Frederick William Burton
Wicklow born Frederick William Burton was an Irish painter who studied in Dublin and was elected an associate and then an academician of the RHA. He travelled extensively in Europe studying the Old Masters. He spent seven years working as a painter in the service of Maximilian II of Bavaria. Burton's watercolour The Meeting on the Turret Stairs, which is held in the National Gallery of Ireland was voted by the Irish public as Ireland's favourite painting in 2012.
