Whytes Irish & International Art auction on Monday 2 December grossed over 1.2 million. An outstanding painting by Paul Henry demonstrated his amazing artistic talent and rightfully claimed top hammer price of 210,000 (lot 27, KILLARY BAY, CONNEMARA, c.1910-15). Jack Butler Yeats THE DUST ON THY CHARIOT WHEEL, 1945 attracted a winning bid of 160,000, and James Osborne (1940-1992) THE RACE, 1992 went for 6,800 to a collector with a keen interest in sculpture.
Other notable results include Letitia Marion Hamilton RHA (1878-1964) RAINBOW AND COTTAGES, which fetched 3,400 (estimate 1,500-2,000), William Crozier HRHA (1930-2011) STILL LIFE WITH PLANT AND BOUQUET with a sale price of 14,000 (estimate 8,000-12,000), while John Butler Yeats RHA (1839-1922) SELF PORTRAIT achieved a result of 1,250 (estimate 600-800).
