Whytes Important Irish Art auction on Monday 3 March grossed over 1.2 million. An outstanding painting by Paul Henry demonstrated his amazing artistic talent and rightfully claimed top hammer price of 270,000 (lot 20 Paul Henry RHA (1876-1958) LAKE AND MOUNTAINS IN CONNEMARA, 1933-6). Colin Middleton SLIGO LANDSCAPE, 1940 attracted a winning bid of 21,000 (estimate 14,000-18,000), and Mary Swanzy HRHA (1882-1978) LA ROUTE went for 36,000 against a pre-sale estimate of 20,000-30,000.
Other notable results include Jack Butler Yeats RHA (1871-1957) MEXICAN NOON and MEXICAN JOE, c.1901, which fetched 10,000 (estimate 6,000-8,000), Albert Lynch (Prussian/French, 1851-1912) LA JOLIE FILLE [THE PRETTY GIRL] with a sale price of 11,500 (estimate 3,000-5,000), while Liam O'Neill (b.1954) BRINGING HOME THE TURF achieved a result of 26,000 (estimate 12,000-18,000).
