Cecily Brennan
Born in Athenry, Co. Galway, Cecily Brennan studied at NCAD from 1974-1978, developing an expressionistic, heavily gestural drawing and painting style. In 1982 she had her first solo exhibition at the Project Arts Centre, where she later served as director (1983-1986). Other solo shows include the Taylor Galleries (1985, 1988 and 1996) and the Douglas Hyde Gallery (1992), Dublin, the Crawford Municipal Gallery (1992), Cork, Limerick City Gallery (1992) and the Nuova Icona gallery (2002) in Venice. In 2012, the artist was awarded the Reel Art Award by the Arts Council of Ireland. Brennan now works in video, sound and expanded sculptural practice as well as drawing and painting. She is a member of Aosdana and lives in Dublin.
