7 June 2024 Our annual Eclectic Collector auction takes place on 17 May to 7 June. This will be a timed on-line sale with viewing in our galleries.
The sale includes historical artefacts, manuscripts, documents, photographs, books, militaria and medals, weapons, memorabilia including advertising, sport and entertainment, coins, banknotes and other collectibles. 582 lots. Bidding is live now and ends at 30 second intervals from 5pm on Friday 7 June at www.bid.whytes.ie.
Highlights: 1809 letter from Emperor Napoleon (lot 34), Pádraig Pearse’s original handwritten manuscript of 'The Fianna of Fionn' (lot 101), 1966 Rising Jubilee 4 ounce gold medal (lot 131), 1920 (21 November) British War medals to Captain G.T. Baggallay, assassinated by Michael Collins’ 'Squad' on 'Bloody Sunday' (lot 169), 1921 grocer's account for 'The Irish Delegation to the Treaty Talks in London' (lot 180), 1900-1910 Hurling, collection of Ed Hayes, Two Mile Borris, Including All-Ireland, Tipperary and Munster Championships. 25 July 2020 This exciting sale – the most important held in recent years - features a wealth of historically important material including The Wolfe Tone Archive, The Thomas Ashe Archive, 1798 and 1916 Proclamations, 1916 Rising medals, uniforms and weapons, a fascinating collection of collectibles from the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’, including the archive of Loyalist leader William ‘Plum’ Smith. A unique collection of ephemera related to Count John McCormack is also included, as is one of the rarest and most desirable pieces of silver – an Irish porringer from the Cromwellian Commonwealth period.
In Part 2 of the sale there are wonderful collections of militaria, coins and banknotes. Militaria features the Glenn Thompson collection of badges, medals, uniforms, postcards and model soldiers. A one owner Irish coin collection ranging from Viking Dublin to Georgian Ireland includes many rarities. Banknotes include a collection of seldom seen specimens in slabbed high grade condition . The sale also includes collectable books by Seamus Heaney, Ernest Hemingway and Ian Fleming. Also offered are ranges of both sporting and entertainment memorabilia, much of it attractively framed.

The Seamus Kearns Collection of Postcards
26 January 2019 In what was the largest auction of picture postcards ever held in Ireland, over 100,000 cards were offered by Whyte’s on 26 January. Every single lot sold, for a total of €130,000, a world record for a single owner collection of picture postcards - a "white glove sale".
This collection was formed by Dubliner, Seamus Kearns (1929-2014). Seamus began collecting stamps in the 1930s and fell in love with old postcards in the 1950s, since when he started amassing this collection. A founder of the Irish Picture Postcard Society, he provided many exhibitions around the country, including a major show at The Guinness Hopstore in 1994.
The collection encompasses Irish topographical views, historic events, advertising, comic and greetings. There are also large collections of worldwide cards including Gruss Aus, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, glamour, greetings, comic, mods etc. Estimates run from €50 to €3,000.
