Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, Dennis H. Osborne was an artist associated with cubist and post-impressionist influences. Before being known for his art, he joined the Royal Artillery and served in France during World War II. Osborne was made prisoner of war in 1942 and transported to Italy before escaping the camp and spending months on-the-run. He was eventually recaptured and sent to prison in Poland until the Liberation in 1945 by the American forces. Osborne exhibited internationally in Canada, Ireland and the UK. He was close friend with Irish-Canadian artist James Le Jeune and showed a portrait of Belfast artist Colin Middleton during the annual exhibition of the Royal Ulster Academy in 1965. His works were exhibited in group shows in the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and the Ulster Museum and he held numerous solo shows in the Jorgensen Fine Art gallery and Molesworth Gallery. A retrospective of his works was organized by the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum in 2017. (whytes.ie)
