Michael Angelo Hayes
Michael Angelo Hayes was the son of painter Edward Hayes who instructed him in art as a youth. He excelled at equine and militray subjects and was appointed military Painter-in-Ordinary for the Lord Lieutenant which had him spend time in London. He came back to Dublin and having exhibited often with the RHA was elected a member in 1854 and then secretary in 1856. In this role he worked hard to put the institution on a more stable financial footing. His address was recorded in the RHA index of exhibitors at 34 Westmoreland St. Hayes exhibited numerous works at the RHA from 1837 to 1876. www.whytes.ie
