Norman J. McCaig
Norman J. McCaig was a Northern Irish painter born in Bangor, Co. Down in 1929. He studied at the Belfast College of Art and at the Academy of Art Vavin in Paris after which he professionally took up painting. McCaig was a good friend of Belfast-born set designer and painter Joseph Sefton with whom the artist collaborated for his very first exhibition in Paris in 1948. Best known for his traditional landscapes and Irish pastoral scenes, McCaig’s early works were influenced by his teacher Kenneth Webb. His paintings were regularly exhibited at the Robinson Gallery in Dublin and at the Eakin Gallery in Belfast. The artist died in 2001 and is today represented in various private collections across Europe.
