Oliver Comerford
Comerford was born in Dublin and studied at NCAD, Dublin, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, Maine and The Art Institute of Chicago. Speaking on his own work at EV+A, Limerick in 1998, Comerford said, "I try to bring to these works a humanity and a sense of social reality that go beyond the conventions of form, capturing reality, and at the same time revealing the ghostly image that lies just under its skin." www.whytes.ie His work has focused on the relationship between photography and painting and the coexistence of abstraction and realism in representational work. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, the Crawford Gallery, Cork, Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow, the Barbican Gallery, London and the Living Art Museum Reykjavik. His work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane.
