Richard Brydges Beechey
The son of Sir William Beechey RA, Richard Brydges Beechey was a captain and later Admiral of the navy, who was also an accomplished painter on marine subjects. In the 1840s he was stationed near Limerick, engaged in surveying the River Shannon. During this period he produced a number of detailed, topographical drawings and what Crookshank and Glin describe as extremely competent watercolours, including two of Askeaton Castle (The Watercolours of Ireland, 1994, page 170).
