Robert Emmet Costelloe

Robert Costelloe was a Dublin-born painter, sculptor and art teacher. After studying at the National College of Art he moved to London then Rome to study art, with a special interest in ceramics. Upon returning to Dublin one of his first commissions was for a poured concrete sculpture at Lansdowne House. www.whytes.ie In 1968 he won the Carrolls Prize for painting and in the same year began exhibiting with the Hendriks Gallery. Costelloe moved to North America in 1970, teaching at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and receiving numerous corporate commissions for his large-scale sculptures. He returned to Ireland in 1973 to teach at the Regional Technical College, Letterkenny, but was killed the following year in a road accident. His brother Paul is the distinguished fashion designer. www.whytes.ie
