Selina Crampton
Selina Crampton, one of six children of the surgeon, Sir Philip Crampton FRS, and his wife, Selina Hamilton, née Cannon (1781-1834) of Bushey Park, Enniskerry. Sir Philip was elected FRS in 1812, and in 1813 he was appointed surgeon-general to the forces in Ireland. He was also Surgeon to the Queen in Ireland, a member of the Senate of the Queen's University of Ireland, and four times President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. www.whytes.ie Her brother was the famous diplomat, Sir John Crampton (1805-1886). In the late 1800s she lived at Glenbrook, Enniskerry with her widowed sister Adelaide (Jephson). 'Clever and talented, she was known as an artist, gardener, wit and generous friend' according to her gravestone in Saint Patrick's churchyard, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow. www.whytes.ie
