Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
Barns-Graham was born and educated in Scotland and later moved to St. Ives in the 1940s where she became a member of the influential Penwith Society of Arts. The present work was executed in St. Ives as her address on reverse would attest. In subsequent years she travelled widely in Europe settling finally in her native Scotland. In 1999 she was elected an honorary member of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Watercolourists. In 2001 the first major monograph on the life and work of Barns-Graham was published; she was awarded a CBE that same year.
